COVID-19 Vaccination Information + Resources

The COVID-19 Vaccine is here, y’all! Well, it’s been here for a few months now, but availability is increasing across the country and including more age groups, workers, etc. Currently, the United States is offering the vaccine from these three pharmaceutical companies: Pfizer, Moderna, and Johnson & Johnson. Pfizer and Moderna are vaccines that require two doses 3-4 weeks apart, while Johnson & Johnson is offering one dose of the vaccine. Some states are opening up availability to include adults in high-risk age groups while some are still only offering the vaccine to their frontline and essential workers and residents 65 years and older. The great news is the vaccine will be available for every adult who wants to receive it with no restrictions no later than May 1st, 2021 per President Biden.

Right now the vaccine is being distributed at large pharmacies, hospitals, federal vaccination sites/drive-thrus, college campuses, etc. Although the roll-out has gotten considerably better, it’s can still be a challenge to find a vaccination site or secure an appointment. I recently received my first shot of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine, dubbed the “Jolene Vaccine” due to Dolly Parton donating millions for the research and trial phase.

I was able to set up the appointment at my local pharmacy a week out and I was in and out of the vaccine site in 20 minutes; 5 minutes for registration and the shot itself (which might have been delayed because I was determined to take a selfie while getting the shot), and a 15 minute waiting period after the shot to make sure I didn’t have any reactions. It was relatively painless and quick. I’m glad I got it done and am awaiting my second dose in a few weeks. I had some soreness in my arm for a few days, but mostly symptom-free. I cannot wait to be fully vaccinated so I can hug my family in peace and go to brunch and drink endless mimosas with my peoples! I will continue to wear a mask and limit risks, but I can’t wait until this vaccine juice kicks in and things can go back to "normal”.

For those of you who are still on the fence about taking the vaccine shot HERE are some resources for you to do your own research and make an informed decision!

Although every state is handling the rollout differently, please check out some vaccine resources by state below.
